Sugar Cone Custom Ice Cream Cone Growth Charts

Posted by Dawn Price, October 15, 2010

We have a new product alert at Dawn Price Baby — Ice Cream Cone Growth Charts!  Sugar Cone was started by two local (DC metro area) designer moms that have put together the best of their creative talents to bring us a new product as unique as your little one.  :)

These adorable growth charts are hand-painted with love and embellished with various media including individually hand-cut papers, gems, beads, felt, sparkly glitter and lots of other fun “toppings” the designers can get their hands on!  The charts are made of solid mdf board and are 5′ tall x 9″ wide. They are coated with a clear protective finish.  Before you ask, I will tell you that all products used are child-safe and the clear protective coating is put over the entire growth chart to seal all embellishments onto the chart so they don’t come off.  Even better, the sealant makes the growth chart easy to clean!  How great is that!?

To begin customizing your growth chart, you can start by reviewing the various ice cream scoops and you pick your favorite 14 flavors.  There is actually 15 scoops on each growth chart, but the 15th is called Top That and it is automatically included on each chart by the designers.  After that, you pick the paint color that you want mixed with a white stripe to be the background of the chart itself.  The designers have chosen to use only Benjamin Moore paint for quality.

Once you have done those exciting steps, you next get to decide if you want to add even more personalization to the chart with the child’s name, add measurements (ruler) on the left side and / or choose to include the names of the ice cream scoops you have choosen on the right.  Each growth chart can be as individual and unique as the child you are buying it for!

If all of these options are overwhelming, then no worries!  The designers also offer 3 Signature Cone growth charts that are tried and true combinations of flavors. If you love the flavors selected or don’t want to go through the process of picking 14 of the 15 flavors with the custom growth charts, then all you have to do is just decide on the perfect paint color for your stripes and the level of customization you want on your chart (measurement numbers along the left side, flavor names along the right side, and whether you want a child’s name at the top of the chart).

There are three signature cones available: Girly Swirly, All Shook Up and Bazooka Boy. All of these charts include “Top That” at the tippy-top of the cone. Each Signature Cone growth chart flavors(see sketch of each growth chart in other images above) are (in no particular order):

  •  Girly Swirly – Carmel Swirl, Coming Up Daisies, Hello, Cupcake!, Peachy Keen, Strawberry Sizzle, Lemon Zinger, Mint Chip, Glass Slipper, Princess for a Day, Sprinkle Sparkle, Treasure Trove, My Funny Valentine, Butterfly Bliss, and I Scream, You Scream
  • Bazooka Boy – Out of this World, In a Pinch, Quarterback Crunch, Peace Out, Baseball Nut, Caramel Swirl, I Get a Kick Out of You, Robot Ripple, Rocky Road, Puppy Dog Tails, Are We There Yet?, Sarge in Charge, Chocolicioius and Anchors Away
  • All Shook Up – Rocky Road, Head in the Clouds, Bubblegum, Mint Chip, Pie in the Sky, Caramel Swirl, Treasure Trove, Lemon Zinger, Apple of My Eye, Pirate Paradise, Chocolicious, M&M Mayhem, Are We There Yet? and Rainbow Ribbons

If you have any questions about the Ice Cream Cone Growth Charts, just let us know.  We are always here to help!

The Mommy Hook Stroller Hanger – why didn’t I think of this!

Posted by Dawn Price, August 17, 2010

Okay, so there are a lot of products out there I see that make me say “why didn’t I think of that!”  The Mommy Hook is one of them.  I was amazed at its simplicity, ease of use and all around functionality.

We mainly use it to hold diaper bags off of our mommies’ strollers.  But the uses are endless — how about holding all the shopping bags or grocery bags for all those urban moms while you stroll?  How about your purse or the extra toys you are carrying around?  How about attaching your camera bag?  Today, I had a mom come into the store and her Patagonia shopping bag kept falling off her stroller as she shopped — the Mommy Hook saved the day!

It is made from durable, heavy-duty aluminium but lightweight and has a rubber grip on one side to help keep it from sliding around on your stroller.  It fits virtually all stroller handles.  What a great product, what a great find.  I hope you enjoy it as well!

Angel Dear Animal Blankies are one of our favorite personalized gifts!

Posted by Dawn Price, July 22, 2010

One of our most popular baby gifts online or in our store are the Angel Dear animal blankies (or animal lovies as they are sometimes called). These adorable animal blankets are cashmere soft and sure to be your baby’s favorite friend! One of the best features is that this snuggly soft lovie is completely machine washable, so after some serious loving by your little one it can be freshened up! ;)

Our store and customer favorite is the adorable Brown Giraffe.

These animal blankets are a great baby gift item and we now offer personalization on each blanket — giving you the option of a completely unique gift! You can get them embroidered with a name, birthdate (or both) and / or a monogram. We love them as a compliment to some of our favorite books like Goodnight Moon or Runaway Bunny or to coordinate with a gender neutral onesie or footie.

Oh, and because they are soooo popular with the little ones, Angel Dear now offers them in sets of three!! Believe it or not, when you try to “freshen” it up there may be a few complaints from the little one. Or, heaven forbid, it gets lost!!! Angel Dear and Dawn Price Baby has you covered and has the “a pair and a spare” for you!

If you have any questions on any of the lovies we have or in general give us a call or send an email. We are here to help!

Sling Safety

Posted by Dawn Price, April 16, 2010

There has been a lot of stir lately about sling safety.  Since we are a huge proponent of slings, we felt we needed to write a bit about what we have learned from some of our sling manufacturers and share some information we have gathered.

With all things baby, safety is paramount.  The concern that has been a buzz on the Internet and which prompted The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to issue a warning, was for “bag- style” slings.  (See warning here:  http://cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10165.html) The excessive material where the baby sits creates a deep pouch putting the baby in a dangerous curve-like position.  This position is believed to have lead to some suffocation of young babies.  It is important to note that of the reported suffocation cases, most of the babies were either premature, low birth weight, or had breathing issues.  However, caution of all babies of all ages is critical.

Pouch Slings or Wraps tend to be viewed as safer when used properly and as per the manufacturer’s instructions.  I came across a co-sponsored press release from various sling manufacturers to make people aware of the different types of slings and what makes a sling safer that I wanted to share.  (See report here: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2010/03/prweb3718984.htm).

As of today, there are no industry standards relating to sling manufacture.  As the government and concerned moms and dads look into this more, we will continue to post new information as we get it.  Even though the alert and buzz on the Internet is troubling, it is important to educate yourself, properly use all slings as per instructions and always keep a diligent eye out (like you already do!).
